The Israeli band Double Space plays original musical settings of Israeli poems by renowned Israeli poets, alongside instrumental pieces. Their music is diverse and eclectic, influenced by classical music, jazz, progressive rock, world music and more.
Double Space established by
Gilad Cohen and
Zohar Sharon, two students from the composition department of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. They decided to set music to Israeli poems, while creating their own creative and extraordinary interpretation to the lyrics they are dealing with, and writing complex arrangements designed to details. They added two other students from the academy – Yakir Sasson and
Nadav Rogel.
In January 2006, Double Space released their first album, Windings. The album was self-produced, with the entire music and arrangements written by Gilad Cohen and Zohar Sharon.
The core of the band consists of two voices, bass, guitar, keyboards, drums and saxophone. For the CD, over 20 guest artists joined in on instruments such as flute, oboe, recorder, oud, and melodica as well as 3 background vocalists and a children choir.
Double Space are:
Gilad Cohen - voice, bass, guitars, keyboards and melodica.
Zohar Sharon - voice, piano and keyboards.
